HISTORY:

The unit was started in 1968 with a single Orthopaedics surgeon, as a sub speciality in Surgery. Today it has evolved into a full-fledged Orthopaedics Surgery department with five well qualified and highly trained Consultants, each with his own subspecialty interest.

FACILITIES:

	Trauma Care: fracture fixation is performed with modern minimally invasive techniques, using the latest GE C-Arm.
	Treatment of sports injuries/ Arthroscopic surgery.
	Joint Replacement.
	Spinal Surgery and Instrumentation for sciatica, spinal infections, tumours and fractures.
	Deformity correction surgery for congenital deformities, fracture non-union/mal-union
	Rehabilitation surgery for Polio, Cerebral Palsy.
	Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery.

Apart from routine surgeries pelvi-acetabular trauma have been treated on a regular basis. Hip and knee replacements are performed regularly with consistently good results. Arthroscopic reconstructive procedures like Anterior Cruciate reconstruction are also performed.

RESEARCH:

	Development of a new plate for dorsal fixation of fractures of distal radius.
	Biological plating for comminuted tibial fractures.
	Clinical study of intramedullary fixation of distal third fibula.
	Development of Intramedullary device for fixation of clavicle fractures.

ACADEMICS:

The unit is recognized for post graduate training by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi and University of Pune by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Mumbai.
