The unit was started in 1968 with a single orthopedic surgeon, as a sub speciality in Surgery. Today it has evolved into a full-fledged Orthopedic Surgery Department with five well qualified and highly trained Consultants, each with his own subspecialty interest.

Apart from routine surgeries pelvi-acetabular trauma have been treated on a regular basis. Hip and knee replacements are performed regularly with consistently good results. Arthroscopic reconstructive procedures like Anterior Cruciate reconstruction are also performed.
