The ENT unit as the name suggests, specializes
in diagnosing and treating Ear, Nose, Throat
and Head & Neck Disease. (Oto-Rhino-Laryngology).
THE
TEAM:
The unit is headed by Dr. K. K. Desarda. His
team of consultants include Dr. Neelam Vaid
and Dr. Sumit Bhatti. The department also consists
of a Teacher for the Deaf and Audiologists.
FACILITIES
AND SERVICES:
BIG EARS is a comprehensive diagnostic centre;
located in the TDH Building forms a main part
of the Audiology Unit. It is the only established
centre in Maharashtra where early detection
of hearing loss is done by:
Oto - Acoustic Emission ( OAE ) Screening
of all babies born in K.E.M. Hospital
and Neonates in the Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit (NICU).
The
Audiology department carries out the following
Audiological Tests:
Pure Tone
Audiometry.
Impedance
Audiometry.
Behavioural
and free field Audiometry.
Speech Audiometry.
Special Tests
to differentiate cochlear from retro-cochlear
hearing loss.
The
department also has facilities for:
Hearing Aid Dispensing and Fitting and Rehabilitation
therapy sessions involving a Teacher for the
deaf and a Speech Language Pathologist to ensure
that every hearing aid is used in the best possible
way.

THIS IS THE ONLY CENTRE OFFERING ALL SERVICES
REQUIRED FOR COCHLEAR IMPLANT UNDER ONE ROOF,
IN THE STATE OF MAHARASHTRA.
The
Centre offers assessment and therapy for speech
disorders such as:
Stuttering.
Stammering.
Neurological
Speech Disorders.
Aphasia.
Some
surgeries done in the unit using State-of-the-art
Equipment are:
Micro - Ear
Surgery (Otology).
Nose Surgery
including Cosmetic (Nose Job) Surgery (Rhinoplasty).
