to the B.J. Medical College and Sassoon General
Hospitals, Pune, and is affiliated to the University
of Pune for Undergraduate and Postgraduate training
in various subjects. Appointments of Lecturers,

Interns and Observers are also done through the
Academics Department.

Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine-ICU-
The KEM Hospital is recognized for conducting
the ISCCM certificate course after Postgraduate
qualification (MD/DNB) in Paediatrics, Medicine/Anaesthesia.
Duration: - One year- after MD/DNB, Two years
after Diploma (DA).
Four candidates per year are enrolled for the
same.
Candidates have to apply in December each year.

various countries like UK, USA, Netherland, Australia
etc. come to KEM for Elective training.

Procedure: Candidates have to fill the
Prescribed form given by the Ministry of Health,
Government of India, New Delhi, and have to send
6 copies of the same with recommendatory letter
from Dean/Principal of their Medical School, Passport
Copy and Demand Draft of Rs. 500/- in favor of
The Secretary, Medical Council of India, New Delhi,
towards Elective Training charges. They need to
submit all the documents at least 3 months prior
to training as the Medical Council of India and
the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, takes
some time for according approval.
On joining, students have to pay processing fees
as per hospital rules.

The KEM Hospital also offers a one year comprehensive
Post Graduate Course in Emergency Medical Services.
This course is of 12 academics months. The initial
9 months will be theory and hands-on practice.
The last 3 months will be of internship, where
rigorous training will be imparted at the KEM
Hospital.

of candidates is done through an interview process.

The Nursing School was established
at K.E.M. Hospital in 1954. Students

The K.E.M. Hospital is a Registered
Public Charitable Trust Hospital. It is a 550-bed,
tertiary level multi-specialty teaching institution.
KEM also runs a secondary level rural hospital
at Vadu Budruk, Shirur Taluka, about 35 kms from
Pune, called the Shirdi Sai Baba Hospital.
With a history spanning over
96 years, the KEM Hospital has all the major clinical
departments such as Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology
& Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Anesthesia, Pathology
and Radiology. It also has super specialties such
as Neonatology, High Risk Obstetrics, a Renal
Unit, Intensive Care Units for adults, children,
newborns, cardiac and neurology cases.

Philosophy:
The faculty of the KEM Hospital School of Nursing
believes that the basic purpose of Nursing Education
is to train students who, on completion of the
education programme are able to plan and give
comprehensive nursing care and health guidance
to patients and their family members. The nurse
must, therefore, be so trained that she is intellectually
and morally enlightened and technically proficient.
She needs to be competent in teaching, oriented
to community health and research minded. It is
important that she must have the necessary knowledge,
basic skills and attitude essential for professional
nursing practice.
We ensure that the students acquire
all these during their training.
Aim:
The School prepares students for the 'A' grade
Diploma Examination in Nursing and Midwifery conducted

The Syllabus and the General
Nursing Course outline, as prescribed by the Indian
Nursing Council/Maharashtra Nursing Council, will
be followed in the school. Classroom and Clinical
lectures will be given by Nursing Tutors, Clinical
Instructors, and Doctors. Lectures on specialties
will be given by specialists in the field. Students
are assigned hospital duties for clinical experience
in various departments such as Medicine, Surgery,
Paediatrics, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, other

Criteria for Selection:

- H.S.C. (10+2 passed) from Maharashtra State
with Marathi as one of the subjects. Preference
will be given to Science (Physics Chemistry
& Biology) subjects with an aggregate of
45% marks.
- Age between 17 years completed to 25 years
at the time of admission.
- Admission is done purely on merit: 50% of
H.S.C. marks, number of attempts + performance
in personal interview and written test.
- Medical Fitness: -
a. Candidates must be mentally and physically
fit.
b. Students have to undergo a medical examination
at the K.E.M. Hospital at their own cost.
c. They will be considered for selection only
after obtaining a Medical Fitness Certificate.

DNB (Neonatology):
|
|
|
The department
runs a 40 bedded Level III Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit (NICU) which provides the best of
neonatal services at affordable costs to patients.
With a dedicated NICU Team, sophisticated
equipments like warmers, incubators, pumps,
and ventilators, and extensive back up facilities
like blood gas, micro lab assays, ultrasound
machines and advanced microbiological testing,
the unit is rendering commendable service
in its mission to provide an ICU facility
for the tiny neonates who come for it.

New Delhi in this NICU:
This is a three year stipendiary course
provided by the unit for Post Graduates

The IAP Neonatology
Chapter has commenced a I year Basic Certified
Course in Neonatal Critical Care in K.E.M.
NICU.

IAP Fellowship
in Pediatric Critical Care: |
|
|
|
|
|
The Pediatric
Intensive Care Unit in K.E.M. is a 10 bedded
unit with trained nurses and qualified Resident
Pediatricians who attend to the immediate
needs of sick children round the clock. It
is equipped for minute to minute monitoring
of vital parameters. It is headed by a highly
trained and devoted intensivist. The cases
coming to the unit have a variegated profile
ranging from traumatic and non-traumatic coma,
respiratory failures from pneumonias, asthma,
congenital heart diseases, myocarditis, septic
shock, diabetic ketoacidosis, liver diseases,
renal failure, foreign body aspiration, accidental
poisoning and animal bites.
The IAP-ISCCM Joint Body has commenced
a I year Basic Certified Course in Pediatric
Critical Care in K.E.M. PICU.
Applications are invited from Post Graduates
(Post M.D. Pediatrics/ Post DNB/ DCH Pediatrics)
for the above course.
The interviews are conducted between May-July
and the course commences in October every
